Home Chef Review Top 5+ Reasons Why

Home Chef is my first experience using a meal prep service and I’m sharing my experience so far. I’m also sharing why I went with them. Yes, ok, we’re in the middle of quarantine. I can honestly say I would have never tried this had it not been for the current times we’re in. I can say though, that I’ve enjoyed it so much that I won’t be stopping anytime soon, even after quarantine is over.

So, yes, I signed up because I wanted to avoid as many trips to the grocery store as possible. Anything I can have delivered was what I am looking for. So with this in mind I started my search.

I have some food intolerances and mostly eat clean and try to avoid gluten and dairy. So these were very important in my menu selection. I am also a budget shopper and cook for one; so value was really important. These are pretty specific requirements and after searching through a few different menus and services I felt Home Chef was my best choice.

Here is my feedback so far.

  • I love the menu options. There are definitely gluten and dairy free options. And the ingredients are listed on the menus so you can see what exactly what the gluten and dairy is in. Sometimes, I am able to pick a meal that says it contains gluten or dairy but can easily omit that ingredient while cooking. Or I can use something I have at home to supplement it.
  • I can cook OK but love simplicity. The meal cards are great. The steps are simple and I’m learning a lot of new things about cooking in the process. The menus can be saved and are hole-punched so they can be stored in a binder for later use.
  • I cook for one and yes, the minimum per meal is 2. However, this means leftovers for me and better value for the price and how much I can get out of it. Sometimes I can get 3-4 meals out of one meal option.
  • In order to get free shipping each week I need to order 3 meals…which is at least 6+ meals for me. This is a lot of food but when I don’t have many other groceries it’s not. Since I’ve started, I have started skipping weeks to balance this out which has also added to savings. So I might only order 1-2 times per month depending on what I need. And you can easily change your options in your account.
  • Ordering is SO easy. You have a week to decide which meals you want to order or if you want to skip the week. There are a variety of meal selections. Some weeks I decide to skip based on gluten and dairy free options available.
  • The meals are AMAZING. Every one. I’ve really made it into an experience too. It’s something to do during this crazy time and it’s been really therapeutic. Something I look forward to.
  • The meals are fairly healthy and the portions are perfect. This is great to keep me on track and not add to COVID-19 LBS. Lol!

Overall, this has been a great meal plan for me. The value for what I get from it is great, considering what I am looking for. I love that I don’t have to put extra energy into planning meals and making sure I have certain ingredients. I’m just happy knowing I’m going to have a healthy home cooked meal without all of the time investment.
