For those who use essential oils, please be educated about using essential oils safely {Click here}
Here are some quick tips to be aware of:
- Educate yourself and research the essential oils you are using. Use them responsibly and as instructed.
- When handling essential oils, do not touch your eyes or mouth and wash your hands while handling. The potency of certain essential oils could cause a reaction to these sensitive areas. If you do get them in your eyes, use a carrier oil to dilute them, water will only make it worse.
- Until you find the right combination of essential oils to carrier oil be sure to start low and slow and dilute heavily until you find the best usage for you.
- Always, always dilute essential oils with a carrier oil for children and and until you find the right combination of essential oil to carrier oil. Also, always dilute when using hot essential oils as these oils can cause burns and blisters if not used properly.
- Citrus essential oils are photosensitive, do not use them in sunlight. Also, you MUST use glass containers when using citrus oils as they will react to and eat plastic. Use dark glass containers, as the sunlight can decrease their potency.
- Take care of your essential oils and store them properly and as instructed.
- Use distilled, purified or filtered water whenever water is an ingredient. Tap water contains bacteria and mold will shorten the shelf life of the products you make.
I am not a doctor, I am just sharing what I know and have learned about essential oil safety. Everyone responds to essential oils differently so please be aware of this important information.
